Aligners are removable orthodontic appliances that put mild pressure on your teeth and jaw. Compared to traditional metal braces, they provide a simple and discreet way to straighten your teeth.
Aligners are made from durable thermoplastics that contain no metal or ingredients like BPS, BPA, latex, or gluten. As a result, they’re safe for all teens and adults, including those with allergies and people who are pregnant.
At Erin McLendon, DDS & Associates - family and cosmetic dentistry, the team uses aligners to correct various issues, including:
You might also benefit from orthodontic treatment with aligners if you have visible gaps between your teeth.
The team offers two types of clear aligners, including:
ClearCorrect aligners are incredibly thin and fit snugly over your teeth. They’re made of a high-quality crack-resistant material that provides stunning results in between 12-18* months.
Invisalign aligners are made from a proprietary thermoplastic called SmartTrack®. SmartTrack is more comfortable than some of the other aligners and provides quicker results. Many people complete treatment within 6-12* months.
To determine if you can benefit from aligners, your Erin McLendon, DDS & Associates - family and cosmetic dentistry provider conducts an oral exam and takes oral X-rays to assess your bite and the alignment of your teeth and jaw.
If your provider uncovers any alignment issues, they take digital impressions of your mouth and upload them using special design software. Your provider uses the software to map out a custom treatment plan with the goal of restoring your smile to balance.
After finalizing the treatment plan, your provider sends your impressions to a dental facility. The experts at the facility use your impressions to design a set of custom aligners that fit perfectly. During treatment, you return to the office every few weeks and transition to a new set.
Each new set of aligners places slightly different pressure on your teeth and jaw, moving them into the proper position.
